Athena was relocated to PRWC in December, 2022. Her original owner from New York was no longer
able to keep her and was in search of a licensed wildlife facility who could assume her ownership and care. Our seasonal handlers became aware of her situation and contacted PRWC. Because barn owls are a native species to Florida, we were able to take her in. She is a captive-bred, glove-trained owl and will be a member of our educational outreach team. She cannot be released into the wild because she never learned how to hunt.
