Bette R.

Bette is a snowbird from New Hampshire, who has been volunteering at Peace River Wildlife Center since 2005. She has been a tour guide since 2005 and has also worked in the gift shop. She currently works in the hospital, is an outreach volunteer, a handler for two of the educational birds (Orion (a barred owl) and Odie (a screech owl)) and transports small birds and animals that have been injured to the center.

During the summer, Bette works at the Loon Preservation Committee in Moultonborough, NH, as the Assistant Center Manager, helping to protect the common loons in NH, where they are a threatened species.
Bette also enjoys singing and has been a member of Harmony, Inc., a women’s Barbershop organization, since 1989, singing with two choruses (Women of Note, Hudson, MA, and New England Voices in Harmony, Nashua, NH), each with several International medals, and in a number of fun quartets as a lead, tenor and baritone. She currently sings second soprano with the Charlotte Chorale, Port Charlotte, FL.

Retired from a career as a Program Manager for computer networking software with Digital Equipment Corporation, Maynard, MA, Bette really enjoys working with animals instead of computers. She also completed the University of Florida Master Naturalist Program in 2015. She hopes to continue to work with animals, enjoy nature and sing for many years to come!
